DO THIS TO BOOST YOUR WEBSITE CONVERSION

People create websites with many end goals in mind. You may start a blog to create discussions with like-minded individuals, or you might set up an online shop to sell your hand crocheted scarves. Whether your goal is clicks, comments, or sales, it all boils down to transforming your audience from passive observers to active participators. There are two aspects determining the reach and sales potential of your website: traffic and conversions. Traffic is the number of people visiting your site. Conversion is the number of people following your call to action. It’s important to determine your goal and make that goal clear to your audience in the form of a strong call to action.

Conversion doesn’t always mean sales, although it often does. It can also be clicking a button that leads to your social media or landing page, booking a call with you, or signing up for your email list. Whatever your goal, if you have a website, you want to increase conversion numbers.

In today’s post, I’m sharing my tips for keeping your conversion high and making sure your website is doing what you set it up to do.

  1. Strong Branding

When someone arrives at your site, you have eight seconds at most to capture their attention. For this reason, it’s critical to be crystal clear from the beginning about what you are selling and why.

Strong branding is branding that your audience can instantly connect with.

This is about more than a pretty color scheme or nice photos, it’s about the core of who you are as a business owner. It’s about the foundations of your brand and the values that inform why you do what you do. It’s about asking yourself, “What’s your guiding question?”, “Why do you do what you do?”, and “What do you want to be known for?” It’s about using those answers to tell your story.

Strong storytelling is a critical part of building a strong brand, because it connects you with your audience on a human level.

2. Call to Action

A good call to action should give users a reason to click. It should mirror your brand voice and connect you to your audience. Depending on the brand persona you are trying to achieve, you could use a big, colorful button that says something like “Buy Now!”, or you could get more creative with it and say something like “Take My Money!” or “I’ll Take Two!” The more brand clarity you have, the easier it will be to figure out how to present your call to action.

The other kind of call to action I recommend using is a strategic opt-in. The options for this are virtually endless. The most common one would be collecting an email address for an email list. It’s important to keep in mind that you need to give them a reason to give you their email, some kind of free gift to incentivize them to click. Mailerlite is a great program to start out if you don’t already have an email service provider.

You can also do discounts and quizzes as opt-ins. Discounts are great because they convert well (who doesn’t love a good deal?) and are easy to implement. Quizzes are also a good option because they boost audience interaction and can give you more insight into your clients. Quizzes are more involved to set up, but depending on what kind of business you have, they can be an invaluable tool. Quizify (a Shopify plug-in) and Interact are both great programs to use for this.

3. Ease of Navigation

A simple concept, but nonetheless extremely important. The easier the navigation features on your site, the easier it is to guide your audience in the right direction. Simplicity is key. Use the principle of predictability- where is the first place you’d expect to find the call to action? About me page?
The blog page? Navigation isn’t an area to get creative, the simpler it is the more effective it will be. Keep your navigation features consistent from page to page. Remember, confusion kills conversion, so make sure your viewers have no cause to be confused.

To summarize, the clearer you are with your website goals, the higher your conversion will be. I hope these branding and site design tips helped you identify any problems you might be having
with your conversion.
