4 REASONS YOUR WEBSITE ISN'T CONVERTING
If you have a website but find yourself facing low conversion numbers, you have probably asked yourself this question. Everyone who creates a website has a goal, but unfortunately, we don’t always meet those goals. In this post we’ll cover the reasons why! In an oversaturated online world, the most important thing you can do to increase conversion is to stand out with the quality of your website. Whether your goals are to get more sales, clicks, or shares, here are four reasons why you aren’t achieving them, and what you can do to fix it.
1. It’s Ugly. (Yup, I said it.)
Visuals matter! Especially when you are trying to stand out from the thousands of other websites out there. Not only do appealing visuals make you stand out from a crowd, when done right they will draw your readers eye to where you most want it to go. It’s more than just aesthetic, it’s providing a clear hierarchy of information and showing your viewers what your brand is all about before they’ve even read one word. Part of quality design includes breaking up text into readable chunks that won’t overwhelm your readers. A pleasant viewing experience turns potential conversions into real results!
2. INCONSISTENT MESSAGING
When looking at your website, a viewer should be able to answer these questions: What do you do? Who do you serve? And why do you serve them? When a website is cluttered and confused, no one looking at it is going to feel called to take action. It’s vitally important to be clear on these three questions, so that a possible client can tell what you do and why you do it within the first few seconds of looking at your page.
3. POOR VISUALS, COPY OR BOTH
One of the most important elements to standing out in the website world is making sure you have high quality photos and copy! Sloppy writing, grammar mistakes, and low quality images are one of the quickest turn-offs when looking at a site.
While brand photos are a great way to up your website game, if you don’t have them right now, don’t worry. High quality stock photos can also make a website look really nice. Here are a few sites I would recommend to find free, high quality stock photos:
Unsplash: Unsplash offers a wide variety of free, high-resolution photos and has become one of the most reputable sources for stock images. All photos are released under the Unsplash license.
Pexels: Pexels provides high quality and completely free stock photos licensed under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license. All of their photos are tagged and easily discoverable.
Pixabay: Pixabay is a free stock website with over 2.2 million stock images, videos, and music clips available for download by the Pixabay community, plus all of their images are royalty-free.
4. NO CLEAR CALL TO ACTION
In order to have high conversion, it needs to be clear to your reader right away what you want them to do. Keep in mind the overall goal of your website and make sure it is clearly stated in a place that is easy to see. Remember, confusion kills conversion. If your reader doesn’t know what the goal is, they won’t be able to help you achieve it.
If your website is suffering from one or more of the problems above, there’s no need to stress! My goal is to help you maximize your website’s potential by always designing with conversion in mind.
